Key responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, procuring and control of site investigation contracts for major infrastructure and commercial development projects
  • Advise the structures team on the design parameters for shallow and deep foundations for buildings, bridges etc.
  • Design complex foundations including pile groups and soil-structure interaction problems
  • Preparation of the earthworks elements of contract documents including specifications, design drawings and reports
  • Assessment of borrow and quarry materials for reuse as embankment fill, drainage, concrete and pavement aggregates
  • Pavement foundation design in accordance with NRA DMRB and UK DMRB;
  • Assessment and design of soil improvement techniques for soft ground stabilisation
  • Design to Eurocode EC7
  • Assessment of peat stability and access road / drainage for upland developments such as Wind Farms etc.

Job requirements

This is an opportunity for a professional with between 5 – 10 years’ experience to join a busy geotechnical team.  However application from less experienced candidates will be considered if they are able to demonstrate the required basic skill set and the drive to develop quickly.   You will be responsible for devising and overseeing ground investigation contracts and supporting various design teams with specialist geotechnical inputs.

You will have a BSc Civil Engineering / Engineering Geology or similar ideally with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or related specialism.   This will need to be couple with project experience in the following areas:

 

  • Knowledge of construction techniques for piles and retaining walls
  • Knowledge of soft ground techniques, peat stability and soil reinforcement methods
  • Proficient knowledge and work experience using finite element modelling of soil-structure interaction problems (Plaxis)
  • Knowledge of quarry/borrow materials used as aggregates and pavement design
  • Construction experience in earthworks, soil improvement and deep foundations.

As an experienced engineer you will be required to be able to demonstrate experience in these key areas:

  • Strong site investigation project management skills and experience
  • Strong geotechnical design skills
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • leadership, presentation and communication skills including report writing
  • Ability to supervise and lead/mentor junior staff.
